President’s Blog – June 17, 2019 – Awards! Awards! Awards!

Hello Members – This Friday June 21, the Sligo Chamber Team travel to Dublin to attend the Public Relations Consultants’ Association 2019 Awards for Excellence at a gala function hosted at the Mansion House.  The Sligo Chamber “Life is for Living – Life is Sligo” mini film has been shortlisted for an award in this prestigious national competition in the Best Use of Digital PR including content creation category. An all Ireland awards competition, this is a celebration of best practice in Irish public relations, public affairs and communications.  The concept for the mini film came from the Sligo Chamber Industrial Group in response to the need identified by member businesses to have a platform to sell the message to potential employees that sustainable careers are available and that  Sligo is an attractive location that offers a high quality of life.

Storylab were engaged by Sligo Chamber to take this concept and develop the #Life is Sligo campaign to encourage people to think of Sligo as the ideal place to build a career in a quality life environment.  And what a success Storylab have made of that campaign.  In their own words they “used an integrated mix of dynamic film, social media and PR to give Sligo Chamber the perfect platform to telling a compelling story about Sligo”.  The mini film is greatly helped by the catchy theme music “Roy Keane” by house and techno DJs, Brame and Hamo, based in Berlin.  It is a great achievement for Ciaran Byrne, Martha Kearns and the team at Storylab to be shortlisted for the 2019 Excellence in PR Awards.  We wish them well for the day.

Staying with the theme of awards, following a series of meetings with Ocean FM, including a meeting on Friday last, Sligo Chamber is pleased to confirm that it will again be holding the Sligo Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards this year.  The primary purpose of the awards is to allow the many superb growing and established businesses in Sligo showcase the outstanding work they do and the contribution they make to the local economy.  The awards are once again being run in association with Ocean FM and Sligo Chamber is particularly pleased to have Danial Browne and his team at Ocean FM on board and for the professionalism they bring to the awards process, the awards promotion and to the awards ceremony itself.  This year, we are pleased to be in a position to add a new awards category bringing the total to five, those being

  • Local Enterprise Office award for start-up companies;
  • Skillnet award for companies who have enhanced business through undertaking Skillnet training;
  • Innovation award for embracing innovation to grow business;
  • Customer Engagement award for businesses with customer services at the core of their ethos, and
  • The Green award, which is the new award, and is for companies who demonstrate a sustainable awareness of the green environment as a pillar of their business.

The awards will be launched in late June with promotion by Ocean FM to continue through July and August.  The closing date for nominations will be in early September.  Videos of the selected finalists will be made by Ocean FM with each finalist being interviewed on Up and Running with Claire Ronan on Ocean FM.  The awards ceremony itself will be at the Sligo Chamber President’s Dinner which will be held this year in the Sligo Park Hotel on Friday, November 8, 2019.

So that’s it for now and here’s hoping for a successful outcome for our mini film “Life is for Living – Live is Sligo” at the Public Relations Awards 2019 in the Mansion House this Friday.

Life is for Living – #Life is Sligo.
