Breakfast Briefing with Minister Perry
The European Enterprise Network in conjunction with Sligo Chamber hosted a Breakfast Briefing with Minister of State for Small Business, Mr John Perry TD in the Glasshouse Hotel on Tuesday 16th July.
As the guest speaker, Minister Perry gave a very informative address, highlighting the Government’s emphasis in creating and sustaining employment. He said that since 2011, 2,000 jobs per month were being created in the private sector and that the government would continue to work with business and SME’s in particular to drive employment further. He also highlighted an on-line initiative that will streamline the licencing issues facing SMEs, an initiative that aims to reduce the bureaucratic burden and administrative costs faced by SMEs.
Minister Perry also addressed issues at a local level, pointing out the responsibility on everyone to work together to drive economic growth locally. He stressed the point that he was very willing to engage with local business and highlighted other regions throughout the country where a more joined up approach to local and regional development exists.
Speaking in reply to the Minister, Sligo Chamber’s CEO, Paul Keyes presented the Chamber’s views on Budget 2014 on both a National and Local level. At a national level, Sligo Chamber advocated for specific focus on three main themes, they being Taxation, Support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and targeted infrastructural spending. At a local level, Sligo Chamber called for specific interventions to support the Industry, Hospitality, Retail and Services sector throughout the North West region. Specifically, the Chamber called the following:

Support for the Retail sector.
Concluding his address, Mr Keyes said “Sligo Chamber will work with any and all interested bodies who share in our core remit which is to Help Sligo Grow” and that Sligo Chamber looked forward towards working closer to the Minister and his officials in advancing its employment generating initiatives.
